Following recent footage of the chaos and violence that is taking place in Kenya, long established city solicitors Gill Akaster is helping a village primary school by supplying it with stationery and goods, allowing many children to continue to learn at a time they would otherwise have been forced to stop.
Following the firm’s rebrand, Gill Akaster has agreed to send its old headed paper, pens, pencils and other stationery to Mtwapi Primary School, located in Maweni, just outside Mombasa. The school only teaches children who can supply their own stationery and so this donation means that many more of the village’s 400 children will now be taught.
The donation stemmed from trainee solicitor Tony Dupreez who met a Kenyan family several years ago while on a trip to the African country. Now close friends with the family, Tony has been sending packages for some time and is encouraging many others to follow his and Gill Akaster’s example.
Managing Partner Stephen Ramsden commented: “This was a great way to see a direct result of how our donations make a difference. Having specific people to send the packages to made it very rewarding and we are pleased to see that it has made a real difference to the lives that these children lead. Many of their families depend on tourism and, due to the recent spouts of violence, this is now almost non-existent. As a company we are always looking to give something back to the community, both locally and further afield.” |
