| 25/6/2009 GA Open Golf Day 2009 | |
25th June saw the annual GA Open Golf day held at China Fleet. Nine teams of four entered from the likes of Bluefin Group, Francis Clark, GE Developments, Peninsula Finance, Plymouth Golf Centre, RBS, Stratton Creber and Veterinary Hospital to name but a few. The teams were then mixed so that each group of four had representatives from different companies. This also meant that players were unaware of how their teammates were doing until the end of the day when the score cards were handed in and added up. Plymouth Golf Centre were there in force and as well as playing, provided some much needed coaching around the course. Nick Horrocks also gave swing checks to any players in need, prior to the game—an added bonus to an already highly regarded event. This is an invitation only event and as time goes on the invitations have become more and more highly sought after. Not surprising when you consider the amount of hard work that goes into organizing it and this is reflected in the atmosphere, with everyone having a relaxed, friendly and fun time. The day was a scorcher with hats, sunglasses and bottles of water needed all round. The game was followed by a well earned evening meal and trophy presentation. Last year’s winning captain, David Back of Bluefin Group, presented the trophies to the winners— Peninsula Finance, whilst GA made a grand entrance in second place (well it wouldn’t have done for us to win now would it!), just beating Plymouth Golf Centre who finished third. Ian Marshall, of Plymouth Golf centre, won the ‘longest drive’ trophy, Charles Evans of Francis Clark won ’nearest to the pin’, Mark Lindo of RBS secured the much sought after trophy for ‘Best Dressed Player’ and the proud owners of the trophy for ‘Slowest Team of the Day’ went to John Bower of the Veterinary Hospital, Steve Aspinall of Bluefin, Alan Bridgeman of Peninsula and John Spry of Plymouth Golf Centre—Well done chaps! |
