|12/05/2011 - New Guide to Tenancy Deposit Disputes|
A new guide has been produced to help landlords, agents and tenants deal with deposit disputes. It suggests ways in which disputes can be avoided and gives examples of evidence that an adjudicator might look for when considering a dispute. The guide has been published by The Deposit Protection Society, The Tenancy Deposit Scheme and My Deposits, who are the scheme administrators for the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDSs) and can be used regardless of which scheme protects the deposit.
It won’t come as any surprise but the guide gives the most common cause of deposit disputes as wear and tear and cleaning charges. This has led to the guide containing a specific section covering these points which both landlords and tenants should find informative and useful.
The guide has been published on all three schemes’ websites – the only difference being the cover design on each. The scheme administrators will continue to operate their dispute resolution services in accordance with this guide and the guide will be updated as necessary to reflect methodology and best practice.
